Silicone Sponge, and Silicone Foam are different. I’ve talked about that in another blog on our website. Both have desirable properties. Some have good physical properties, and some have good flame retardant properties. There are some products that can actually be both. R10400M is one of the unique products that can meet desirable properties of both silicone foam, and silicone sponge.
What is so Special About R10400 (Medium) SIlicone Sponge?
This product is a Medium Density Closed Cell Silicone Sponge that shows all the properties of silicone sponge, while also being flame retardant. R10400M from Saint Gobain is the only silicone sponge product that I know of that is flame retardant to the UL 94 V0 standard. One of the challenges of silicone foam is the lack of physical properties, which I’ve discussed here. Most silicone foams meet UL 94 V0, however their physicals are dwarfed by conventional silicone sponge products. The reason this is important, is although there are many silicone sponge products that meet the UL HBF standard, only one I know of meets the UL 94 V0 standard. Some customers have strict requirements when it comes to UL, when such a requirement comes up.
