Frequently Asked Questions
This is intended for anyone that is associated with NEDC, whether it be a customer or a supplier. If you have any additional questions that are not answered below, feel free to fill in our contact form or send us an email.
When was NEDC founded?
NEDC was founded in 1982 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Over the past 30 years, NEDC has evolved and grown to include numerous capabilities including (but not limited to): waterjet cutting, kiss-cutting, die-cutting, knife-cutting, and laser-cutting. With the additional capabilities that NEDC has acquired, it is now a global provider of gaskets, preforms, absorbers, thermal pads, and EMI/RFI gaskets.
What can I expect for NRSUs (Non-Recurring Set Up Charges)?
Complexity is a major contributor to the determination of whether or not an NRSU will be required. For example, if the part has many tight radii and has tighter tolerances than normal.
What kind of quality standard can I expect with NEDC?
- NEDC is ISO 9001:2008 certified/AS9100 Rev D
- NEDC has many credentials that speak to its credibility and expectations of quality.
- NEDC has 30 years of experience in the rubber industry.
- NEDC has many customers that work for the government, making products that are used in the aerospace and military industries.
With all of the experience NEDC has in the aerospace and military industry, NEDC is acclimatized to the stringent quality standards that the aerospace, and military industry expects, including FAI’s, Raw Material Certifications, Certificates of Analysis and other quality requirements.
What kind of materials does NEDC work with?
NEDC works with a variety of materials, including: Neoprene®, silicone, fluorosilicone, Buna-N or nitrile rubber, sponge rubbers, foam rubbers, conductive rubbers (MIL-DTL-83528F), preforms, thermal pads, and absorbers. NEDC also converts 3M adhesives and laminates the materials mentioned above.
Does NEDC have its own waterjet?
The answer to that question is yes. NEDC owns and maintains its own waterjet. This waterjet gives NEDC the capability to cut various materials while maintaining the tight precision standards that is necessary in a marketplace oriented with the military and aerospace industries.
Does NEDC do business with any industry other than the military and aerospace industry?
Yes, NEDC does business with all industries including medical, commercial, and automotive, but has a lot of experience with the military and aerospace industry.
Will NEDC be able to handle my stringent quality requirements?
NEDC is acclimatized to the quality requirements expected in all industries and manufactures material and gaskets with a commitment and dedication to the highest quality standard. NEDC knows the MIL-STD-130, SAE ARP-5316, MIL-HDBK-695E, and MIL-HDBK-454 by name, and is extremely familiar with these as well as other quality specifications and procedures. NEDC handles a lot of quality requirements, ranging from 85% shelf life to 100% visual inspection of an entire lot.
What is converting?
Converting is a loose term used to describe when raw materials are fabricated into finished parts. Finished parts can be defined as nearly anything that serves a practical purpose, such as sealing, insulating, protecting, and conducting.
NEDC converts many different types of materials including sponges, foams, tapes, liners, papers, solid rubbers, films and others. NEDC converts these materials through waterjet cutting, kiss cutting, die-cutting, laser-cutting, slitting, fabricating, and other methods. NEDC converts the following materials, once again this list is not exhaustive:
Sponge Rubber
- Viton® Sponge
- Neoprene® Sponge
- Silicone Sponge
- Epichlorohydrin Sponge
- EPDM Sponge
- Fluorosilicone Sponge
- Specification Sponge, such as ASTM D1056, ASTM D6576, and AMS 3323A
Foam Rubber
- Poron® a Rogers Corporation product
- HT800® a Rogers Corporation product
- Crosslinked Polyethylene

Most of the above materials can be supplied with a diverse range of 3M adhesive tapes, including but not limited to: Electrically Conductive Adhesive Tape 9719 (silicone), 9713 (acrylic), Non-Electrically conductive tapes such as 9472, 467MP, and 9472LE.
Will I have to check up on my order, or will NEDC notify me if it's late?
We here at NEDC have a saying “Bad news doesn’t get better with time.” We think it is extremely important to notify our customer when their order will be late, and we don’t notify them after its due or the day it’s due. After 30 years in the gasket industry, NEDC realizes the importance of notification to ensure our customer can plan for their production schedules.
Does NEDC have a line card so I don't have to read through the entire website?
Sure! NEDC manufactures:

The best place to send your RFQ is sales@nedc.com. This way the quote will go directly to the team that will help you.
What is a CAGE code and does NEDC have one?
