thermal pad application

At this point, I’ve written 250 blogs on this website- I know, I am even like, how much of a thermal pad geek am I? Why did I ask this question? I was curious if I have written a blog about LOCTITE® Thermstate 2000 Phase Change material. At one point, we had written a blog about phase change materials offered by Henkel. It was simply a note in a larger blog on availability, and how phase change materials work. We have a lot of customers who utilize Thermstrate 2000.

Construction:

LOCTITE® TCF 1000AL aka Thermstrate 2000 is a thermal compound coated on both sides of an Aluminum 1145.

Each side of the Aluminum Carrier has a .0005” Thermal Compound, coated onto the .002” Aluminum Substrate.

Benefits/Features of Thermstrate 2000 aka TCF1000AL:

This Thermstrate material is an electrically conductive thermal interface pad. It comes in a total thickness of .003’’ (.076mm). As with all thermal pads, more pressure means more compression, and that means there is less space for air to impede thermal transfer. At the highest pressure of 100 psi, the thermal impedance hits a low of .036 ºC-in²/W. This pad is often burned in to change the composition of the material for maximum thermal performance. The phase change temperature is around 60 ºC. Again, its good to mention that since this material is not electrically isolating, it can short electronics if put into an application that is intended to be electrically isolating.

Heres a major selling point of this material: ITS SILICONE FREE.

Applications:

-Solid State Drives

-DC-DC Converters

-RF Modules/Components

-Non-Electrically Isolated Thermal Transfer Requirements

More Information:

NEDC does die-cutting, and other converting for materials such as Thermstrate 2000.  This material comes in sheets, or rolls. Thermstrate 2000 comes in a matte white color. For more information on Thermstrate 2000, or you have an application that you feel could utilize a phase change material, please contact sales@nedc.com
