As discussed in many of the posts that we write, different materials are what make up NEDC’s DNA. The beauty of die-cutting lies in the different materials and the versatilities they may offer. One material that offers significant versatility is the flame retardant silicone sponge product NORSEAL® R10460 by Saint Gobain Performance Plastics.
Properties & Specifications of R10460
Norseal® R10460 Silicone Sponge offers a number of great properties. This medium density (6–14psi compression*) silicone sponge features low compression set, and fire retardancy to UL 94 HBF. In addition, this material has a number of applicable specifications that it is capable of meeting. Some of these specifications include: AMS-3195, ASTM D1056 Type 2, Class A, B, C, and D. Also, It is capable of meeting MIL-R-6130 callouts Type 2, Grade A, B, and C, along with the superseding specification ASTM D6576. Similar to other silicone sponge products, R10460 has a wide operating temperature. This elastic silicone sponge material features a broad operating temperature from -100°F to +500°F. In addition, similar to other closed cell sponge materials, it has a low water absorption of 5% per ASTM D1056.
This unique blend of properties makes R10460 a great candidate for many applications. Commonly, customers utilize R10460 for its excellent sealing properties in harsh environments, flame retardance, and compression set resistance. For instance, common applications include vibration dampening, gasketing, and thermal insulation such as oven sealing.
The material is available in a number of thicknesses ranging from 1/16” to ½ an inch. The standard color of R10460 is a dark blue/gray. NEDC commonly die-cuts or waterjet cuts R10460 Silicone Sponge into custom shapes such as gaskets. R10460 Silicone Sponge is available with silicone or acrylic PSA on one side for ease in assembly. In conclusion, R10460 is a great material for different sealing applications. For more information on R10460 Silicone Sponge, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
