At NEDC our products are constantly evolving. As thermal management becomes a priority in ever smaller electronics, thermal management die-cut products become an even bigger part of our product line up. Some of our products include saving heat, but most of our products are trying to do the opposite – remove heat. With that said, I thought I’d write a blog that includes some of our core products that remove heat from applications.

Frozen Epoxy Films

Epoxy Adhesive Preforms are a high-growth market. Many of these films are required to be stored either frozen or at refrigeration temperatures. At NEDC, we convert these materials with die-cutting or laser-cutting machines. These films nearly always offer thermal conductivity, but can also offer electrical conductivity, additional reinforcement, mil-spec requirements, and more. Henkel seems to have all of these bases covered with a variety of films:

-Electrical Conductivity (Ablefilm®  5025E, ECF561E, CF3350, etc.)

-Additional Reinforcement (561, 561K, 5020K, etc.)

-Mil Spec Requirements MIL-STD-883, Method 5011(Ablefilm® 5025E, 5020K)

Thermal Pads

We talk about thermal pads constantly at NEDC. This is because they are increasingly relevant for thermal management globally. Similar as above, Henkel seems to offer a thermal solution for just about everything. Their thermal pad offering is a large library of pads that can offer different properties for different applications:

-Non Electrically Insulating(QPad II, QPad III, etc.)

-High Thermal Conductivity Requirements(GPHC5.0, GP5000S35, GP7000ULM, etc.)

-Silicone Free(GP3004SF, GP2200SF, GP1000SF, GP2000SF, etc.)

-Bonding Applications(Bond-Ply)

-Thin Gaps & Thicker Gaps

-Highly Durable Situations(GP1000HD)

-Low Pressure applications(GP3500ULM, GP6000ULM, GP7000ULM, etc.)

-High Pressure(Sil-Pad, Poly-Pad, etc.)

Silicone Sponge

Normally silicone sponge rubber is a great thermal insulator, meaning its use to keep heat inside products instead of removing heat. However, Saint Gobain Performance Plastics(SGPP) makes a thermally conductive silicone sponge called Thermacool® R10404 Silicone Sponge. This closed cell silicone sponge is a gap-filling material that is electrically isolating that is offered in thicknesses from .031’’ to .250’’. It comes in a cool, light green color.

NEDC uses different machines to convert the above materials into custom shapes, including waterjet cutting, die cutting, and laser cutting machines.
