At NEDC, we die-cut a lot of thermal interface materials (TIMs). Cost is always a concern when customers are selecting thermal pads. When selecting an .015’’-.020’’ thin thermal pad, Sil-Pad A2000 is a good choice. 

Why Select Thermal Interface Pad Sil-Pad A2000? 

I’m going give a few reasons:

-It comes in two thickness options that is between a “Gap Pad” and a “Sil-Pad” -.015’’ and .020’’

-It has great thermal performance 

-It comes in rolls, unlike its counterpart Sil-Pad 2000- allowing for larger thermal preforms, and overall more affordable cost structure

-It has nearly all the same properties as Sil-Pad 2000, silicone base, fiberglass carrier, good UL rating, etc. 

Sil-Pad 2000 vs Sil-Pad A2000? Are they the same?

I was going to write a blog on this, but I thought it would be better to have a note in here. I have the same exact note in my Sil-Pad 2000 blog. A lot of times customers confuse Sil-Pad 2000 with Sil-Pad A2000. They are different materials. One may ask, what are the differences? 

-The Outgassing with Sil-Pad A2000 on the TML(Total Mass Loss) is slightly higher

-Sil-Pad A2000 is available only .015” and .020”, while Sil-Pad 2000 is available slightly thinner at .010”.

-Thermal Conductivity is better with Sil-Pad 2000, but only slightly.. Honestly, I might discount that a little bit more because thermal conductivity is an indicator – not necessarily a performance metric that can be depended on. 

-Dielectric Constant is slightly better for Sil-Pad A2000

-The thermal performance and thermal impedance are essentially neck, and neck with Sil-Pad 2000 being slightly better.

Well its always a good idea to test in the application, Sil-Pad A2000 can be considered a good alternative to Sil-Pad 2000 for thermal applications.
