Norseal® R10450 Reinforced Silicone Sponge from Saint-Gobain is a general-purpose, closed-cell silicone sponge designed for gasketing applications that require dimensional stability, controlled compression, and long-term environmental resistance. Unlike standard silicone sponge materials, R10450 incorporates internal fiberglass reinforcement, making it especially well-suited for narrow-wall and precision gasket designs.
At New England Die Cutting (NEDC), we convert R10450 into finished components—die-cut, waterjet-cut, knife-cut, and laminated—to meet exact customer drawings and assembly requirements.
What Makes R10450 Different
R10450 is a reinforced closed-cell silicone sponge with fiberglass sandwiched between two layers of silicone sponge. This construction provides stability in the x–y direction, minimizes outward extrusion under compression, and allows for accurate cutting of thin or complex gasket geometries.
Key advantages include:
-
Reinforced structure for improved tensile strength
-
Reduced creep and extrusion under sustained compression
-
Excellent weatherability, ozone, and UV resistance
-
High electrical strength and non-stick surface properties
-
Wide operating temperature range from extreme cold to high heat
These characteristics make R10450 a strong choice where gasket consistency and long-term performance are critical.

R10450 is available in both sheet and continuous roll formats, supporting a wide range of manufacturing and conversion needs.
Standard thicknesses include:
-
0.063″
-
0.125″
-
0.188″
Pressure-sensitive adhesive options—acrylic or silicone—are available in sheet form for applications requiring quick installation or controlled placement.
NEDC Conversion Capabilities for R10450
NEDC specializes in precision conversion of reinforced silicone sponge materials like R10450. We routinely support prototype through production volumes for OEMs and contract manufacturers.
Our in-house capabilities include:
-
Die-cutting for high-volume, repeatable gasket production
-
Waterjet cutting for thicker materials, tight tolerances, or complex profiles
-
Knife cutting for fast turnaround and low-to-medium volume runs
-
Lamination to pressure-sensitive adhesives, films, or carrier layers
The reinforced structure of R10450 allows for clean edges and predictable performance when processed with the correct cutting method.
