polyimide reinforced thermal pads, sil-pad k4,k6,k10 die-cut

At NEDC, we cut a number of thermal pads. Through all the thermal pads we sell- we see a large amount of diversity in their make-up. Most thinner thermal pads utilize fiberglass reinforcement. However, there is an alternative such as polyimide that offers great dielectric strength.

My Question, Does NEDC have these Sil-Pad K4, K6, and K10 Materials in Stock?

NEDC stocks many of these thermal pads. These include Sil-Pad K4, K6, and K10.

Nomenclature of Sil-Pad K4, K6, and K10 materials:

Sil-Pad K1300: SPK10-0.006-00-11.512-NA, SPK10-0.006-AC-11.512-NA(PSA backed)

Sil-Pad K1100: SPK6-0.006-00-11.512-NA, SPK10-0.006-AC-11512-NA(PSA backed)

Sil-Pad K900: SPK4-0.006-00-11.512-NA, SPK4-0.006-AC-11.512-NA(PSA backed)

Why choose a Polyimide/Kapton Film Reinforcement over a Fiberglass Reinforcement?

There would be two reasons to choose a thermal pad that has a polyimide/Kapton reinforcement over a fiberglass counterpart.

Reason A: The dielectric strength is better. When prioritizing higher dielectric strength, or higher voltages as a requirement in the thermal application- picking a material with polyimide reinforcement is a good idea.

Reason B: Cut through strength is superior. Polyimide film are a continuous layer in the material. These materials have better resistance to being pierced by sharp objects that may be present during installation of the material into the thermal application.

The below presents the availability of the thermal pads with polyimide film reinforcement. There is 0.9 W/m-K to 1.3 W/m-K available. In addition, they are available with adhesive backing(PSA) for ease of installation into the application.

Availability of Polyimide, Kapton Reinforced Thermal Pads

Sil-Pad K10- 1.3 W/m-K – color beige – 0.006’’ aka SIL PAD TSP K1300

Sil-Pad K6- 1.1 W/m-K – blue/green – 0.006’’ (only pad with a VTM-0 UL 94 Rating) aka SIL PAD TSP K1100

Sil-Pad K4- 0.9 W/m-K – color gray – 0.006’’ aka SIL PAD TSP K900

Silicone Free Versions of These Pads:

Poly-Pad K10- 1.3 W/m-K – color yellow – 0.006’’ (silicone-free) aka SIL PAD TSP PPK1300

Poly-Pad K4- 0.9 W/m-K -color mauve –  0.006’’ (silicone-free) aka SIL PAD TSP PP900

Applications where Polyimide Kapton Film Reinforced Thermal Pads are Used

-Power Supplies

-Motor Controls

-Power Semiconductors

Which Kapton Thermal Pad Should I Use?

When it comes to choosing a Sil-Pad option of the polyimide reinforced materials, nowadays, I look at a few options. Theres really a pretty easy decision tree?

A. Whats my Price Range? If your price range is lower, it may consider Sil-Pad K4, or Sil-Pad K6, or Poly-Pad K4. However, Sil-Pad K10, and Poly-Pad K10 are the higher performing thermal materials- and the cost associated with them.

B. Do I care about details, or do I just want the highest performing? Sil-Pad K10 aka TSP SIL PAD K1300, and Poly-Pad K10 aka SIL PAD TSP PPK1300 are the highest performing Kapton thermal pads.

C. Do I want it Silicone-Free, or Do I not Care about Silicone? If you don’t care about Silicone, just go with Sil-Pad K10 (TSP K1300), K6 (TSP K1100), and K4 (TSP K900).

More Information/Die-Cutting Polyimide Thermal Pads

NEDC die-cuts, or otherwise converts these materials into finished thermal pads for customers. As a thermal pad manufacturer, we also die-cut the standard Sil-Pad Configurations out of these thermal pads. For more information on polyimide reinforced thin thermal pads, please contact sales@nedc.com
