At NEDC, we manufacture many types of thermal interface materials. In cases where thermal materials are not thick enough, or functional enough to provide thermal transfer like some applications may need, graphite fabric over foam is proposed.

Why Graphite Fabric for Thermal Transfer?

As mentioned in most of our thermal pads blogs we have written about these subjects. Graphite Films, and Graphite Thermal Interface Materials are some of the highest conductivity materials you can get. Graphite up until now, has been only provided in thin cross sections where they are used. However, when a graphite film covering is achieved on different foams, especially thermally conductive products can be achieved. These thermal gaskets are especially effective. Since NEDC is a Laird Converter, we are going highlight the best product on the market, the GOF Series (Graphite Over Foam). Laird utilizes the TGON 9000 synthetic graphite over their foam.

Why Silicone Foam, versus Polyurethane Foam in Graphite Over Foam Gasketing

Polyurethane Foam, and Silicone Foam are both known as low compression set materials. However, in high temperature applications silicone foam becomes incredibly resilient at compression set avoidance. Compression set is dramatically affected by temperature, and that is where silicone excels. Polyurethane can be considered as a more economical alternative.

Why Are We Obsessed with GOF3000, Thermally, And Electrically Conductive!?

I don’t want this paragraph to distract you from the fact that GOF1000, and GOF2000 are excellent products. In fact, they are among the best for thick cross sections for thermally conductive products. However, GOF3000 is ELECTRICALLY, and THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE. Finding products that can achieve EMI shielding, along with thermal transfer as low closure pressure is incredibly difficult to find. We have shown in some of our NEDC videos how important low closure pressure is to work with because of foam. Here are some of the benefits of GOF3000.

-Low Compresion Set

-UL94V0 Flammability Rating

-Lightweight

-Copper makes it resistant to abrasion

-EMI Shielding/Electrical Conductivity from Copper

-Thermal Transfer/Thermal Conductivity from Graphite
