A few years ago, I had a car that had a sunglasses holder near the sunroof. I’m not going to name the manufacturer because I’m never buying a car from them again- however- One day(don’t ask me why, it started rattling).. It made this all the time. Finally, after a week of doing it, I decided to figure out what the heck was going on. I concluded that all it needed was a little piece of foam/sponge that could serve as a cushioning pad to stop the rattling.
Some Foams to Think About:
-Silicone Foam/Sponge
Obviously there is a difference between silicone foam, and silicone sponge- however, oftentimes both of these will work just fine for low impact rattling/shaking applications. I’d prefer sponge over foam though.

BISCO HT-800 Rogers Corporation
-Neoprene/EPDM/SBR Blends
I chose this one because of the economics of the foam/sponge of these materials. They offer a great balance of properties while also maintaining an economic advantage, having the ability to purchase many cushions at a reasonable price.

SCE43B Rubberlite
SCE45B Rubberlite
-Crosslinked Polyethylene Foam (XLPE)
This foam I love for similar reasons as the Neoprene/EPDM/SBR blends. However, I’ve seen it used more often for cushioning, and pads. It comes in a variety of thicknesses- coming in buns up to 3’’ thick.

Think about an Adhesive Tape
I usually suggest an adhesive tape in those situations for two reasons:
- The modulus of the tape absorbs additional impact
- With rattling and moving, the adhesive tape helps the foam/sponge to stay in place.
