When your application needs both thermal management AND EMI suppression, most engineers specify two separate products. CoolZorb from Laird/DuPont challenges that assumption — a single hybrid material that conducts heat away from sensitive components while simultaneously absorbing unwanted RF energy. NEDC die-cuts and waterjet-cuts CoolZorb into custom shapes, ready for your assembly process.

Properties of CoolZorb™ Thermal/EMI Absorbers

CoolZorb™ is a unique product because it reduces RF noise in an application, while also reducing the amount of heat present in an application through its impressive thermal performance properties. These pads also have tack on both sides of the product to help wet-out onto the surface and increase overall thermal performance.  EMI Suppression varies wildly with these thermal interface pads. I put the general effective range next to each product.

What Sets CoolZorb™ Hybrid Thermal/EMI Absorbers Apart?

The thing I like about these products is, its a 2 in one solution. In addition to that, there is a CoolZorb™ for many frequencies, and theres something to fit for nearly any frequency. Our guess is, once this product is fully realized, a lot of customers will begin to utilize it instead of buying an RF Absorber, and a Thermal Gap Filler separately.

When to Choose CoolZorb vs. Separate TIM + EMI Absorber

CoolZorb vs. Buying a Thermal Pad and EMI Absorber Separately Most applications requiring both thermal management and EMI absorption source these as two separate components. CoolZorb challenges that approach with a 2-in-1 hybrid material. The advantages of consolidation:

  • Reduced part count and assembly steps
  • One material qualification instead of two
  • No added interface resistance between thermal and EMI function
  • Simplified供应链 management for high-volume production The trade-off: pure thermal pads or dedicated RF absorbers may offer higher conductivity in their single function. CoolZorb is the right choice when form factor, assembly efficiency, and dual performance outweigh maximum single-function specs.

Silicone-Free Options

CoolZorb™ -Ultra, 11.5 W/m-K, 25 GHz +, Silicone-Free Thermal Pad/RF Absorber, Available in Thicknesses:.020’’-.157’’ Datasheet Download– Why do I bold this?

CoolZorb™ is considered an especially unique product. This thermal gap filler pad conducts heat at an amazing 11.5 W/m-K. In addition, it offers RF absorption, along with electrical insulation.

-Passes UL 94V0 Requirements

-40 C to 257 F temperature range

A silicone-free Hybrid Thermal/EMI Absorber actually deserves its own post.. But it’s a part of the CoolZorb series.
