custom nitrile gaskets

custom nitrile gaskets

At NEDC, we cut a lot of types of materials. A common type of material chosen for fuel-resistant applications is nitrile gasketing. Nitrile gasketing has an excellent balance of properties that make it a versatile material to pick for applications where fuel resistant gasketing are required.

Properties of Nitrile/Buna-N Gasketing

-Excellent Oil, Fuel, and Grease Resistance

-Good tensile strength/tear resistance available

-Wide temperature range

-Good abrasion resistance

-Wide availability of durometers (Durometers can range from 30 to 90A.)

Military Specifications available for Buna-N/Nitrile Gaskets:

-MIL-R-6855 Type 1 (Grades 40 to 80 available)

-ASTM D2000 BG or BF

-MIL-G-1149 (Grade 50)

-MIL-R-3065 SB (Grades 40 to 80 available)

-AMS-3215 (Grade 70, Fuel Resistant)

-MIL-R-2765 (Grade 40)

FDA Compliant Nitrile Gaskets

Similar to EPDM, and Silicone Rubber Gasketing, FDA compliant materials are available. These materials are compliant to FDA 21 CFR 177.2600. The typical color of these materials are white. Well of course its not true white is always FDA compliant, many times it can be.

Nomenclature for Nitrile Rubber Gaskets

Nitrile gasketing is probably the most common to different names. All of the below could be considered Nitrile type gasketing materials, so when looking for what to put on the print, it’s best to stick to the military specifications.

NBR per ASTM D1418

Nitrile

Buna-N

Acrylonitrile Butadiene

Nitrile Butadiene

Typical ASTM D2000 grade(s) BG, BF

More Information/Availability of Buna-N Gaskets

As with other types of gasketing materials, NEDC can provide thicknesses ranging from 1/64’’ to ½’’ thick. NEDC can provide Nitrile/Buna-N gaskets with adhesive backings such as acrylics such as 100MP, or 200MP tapes. NEDC can cut this gasketing into custom gaskets via waterjet, and die-cutting. Most nitrile gasketing comes in the color of black. For more information on Nitrile/Buna-N gaskets, please contact sales@nedc.com.
