PHENOLIC

Phenolic is a hard, dense material made by applying heat and pressure to layers of paper or glass cloth impregnated with synthetic resin. Phenolic has many layers of lamination which are usually made of cellulose paper, cotton fabrics, synthetic yarn fabrics, glass fabrics, or unwoven fabrics. When heat and pressure are applied to the layers, a chemical reaction (Polymerization) transforms the layers into a high pressure thermosetting industrial laminated plastic.

Phenolic Grades

Phenolic Grade XX: Is a paper base phenolic laminate with good mechanical properties, high dielectric strength, and good resistance to moisture. Phenolic Grade XX's typical applications include switch bases and panel boards.

Phenolic Grade C: Is a General Purpose cotton fabric laminate.

Phenolic Grade CE: Is a cotton fabric base phenolic laminate having high impact strength for mechanical applications such as gears, pulleys, insulators, washers and rollers.

Phenolic Grade L: Is a Fine weave cottone, general purpose.

Phenolic Grade LE: Is a fine weave cotton fabric base phenolic laminate which is low in moisture pickup and dissipation factor and is excellent in all electrical properties. It can be machined to very close tolerances and ideal for applications requiring good mechanical properties combined with excellent electrical characteristics.

Phenolic Grade G-7: It is a continuous glass fabric laminated with silicone resin. G-7 is unequalled for high heat and arc resistance applications, and where good mechanical and electrical properties must be exhibited in humid conditions in excess of 500° F.

Phenolic Grade G-9: It is a continuous woven glass fabric laminated with melamine resin. It is recommended for use where good mechanical strength and superb electrical properties are needed under wet conditions. Phenolic Grade G-9 is used for arc barriers, structural electrical parts, specialty terminal blocks and circuit breaker components.

Phenolic Grade G-10: It is a continuous woven glass fabric laminated with epoxy resin, extremely high in mechanical strength, low water absorption, and superior electrical characteristics, for a wide range of temperature and humidity. Phenolic Grade G-10 is used for washers, sleeves, and parts where the strength-to-size ratio is critical.

Phenolic Grade G-11: It is a grade similar in composition and properties to G-10, but more suitable for continuous use at elevated temperatures. Phenolic Grade G-11 applications are limited to only the most critical high heat situations.

POLYETHYLENE

Polyethylene has excellent corrosion resistance to many industrial chemicals, such as acids, salts and alkalis. This type of material may be easily welded by a Plastic Welder but they cannot be cemented. Polyethylene can be easily fabricated with a wood saw or can be drilled with metal bits.

Low Density Polyethylene

Low Density Polyethylene, which is an extruded material, offers good corrosion resistance properties and also offers low moisture permeability. Low Density Polyethylene can be used in applications where corrosion resistance is a factor, but stiffness, high temperatures, and structural strength are not. Low Density Polyethylene can be easily fabricated, vacuum formed, and welded. Low Density Polyethylene is an economical option for many applications requiring low temperature flexibility, toughness and durability. Low Density Polyethylene is resistant to stress cracking and has wide acceptability in transporting water and chemicals. Extrusion in black is recommended to improve durability in direct sunlight or outdoor exposure. Heat distortion temp: 120° F. Natural Color: milky.

High Density Polyethylene

High density Polyethylene offers superior corrosion resistance, a higher working temperature range, and higher tensile strength. POLYPROPYLENE

Polypropylene possesses excellent resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. Polypropylene has a lower impact strength, but Polypropylene's working temperatures and tensile strength are superior to low or high density Polyethylene. Polypropylene is light in weight, resistant to staining, and has a low moisture absorption rate. Polypropylene is a tough, heat-resistant, semi-rigid material, ideal for the transfer of hot liquids or gases. Polypropylene is recommended for vacuum systems and where higher heats and pressures are encountered. Polypropylene has excellent resistance to acids and alkalis, but poor aromatic, aliphatic and chlorinated solvent resistance. Heat distortion temp: 220° F. Colors: semi-opaque.

TEFLON® (Fluorocarbon)

TEFLON is the Du Pont Company's registered trademark for its fluorocarbon resins, TFE and FEP, TEFLON TFE and FEP are both high melting thermoplastic materials. TEFLON TFE, the first resin developed, has the familiar white-to-opaque appearance. It is usually fabricated by cold forming and sintering techniques. TFE has the higher melting point and is capable of continued service at 500° F. TEFLON FEP is a melt processible resin, clearer in color, and nearly transparent in thin sections. It is capable of continued service at 400° F. Both TEFLON resins have a combination of chemical, electrical, mechanical and thermal properties unmatched by any other material. Because of these properties, TEFLON resins are used as gasket and packing materials in chemical processing equipment; as electrical insulation for maximum reliability; and in bearings, seals, piston rings and other mechanical applications including those requiring antistick characteristics. We can supply TEFLON TFE as sheets, rods, tube, tape, bars and cylinders - filled and unfilled. TFE Sheet is available with cementable surface on one or both sides. We can also supply TEFLON FEP film and selected shapes of FEP resin. FEP film is available with and without a cementable surface. Standard shapes of these materials are readily machined to produce an almost endless variety of components.
